The Ecosystem Built for Digital Interoperability Across the Department of War
DDEA leverages proven Commercial-Off-The-Shelf technology and Academic Research to break down data silos and connect the systems that power the mission.
Alliance Announcements
NIAR Wichita State University Joins the DDEA
We are proud to announce that the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University has joined the Defense Digital Ecosystem Alliance. NIAR brings world-class research capabilities and deep expertise in advanced manufacturing and digital engineering to the Alliance.
Accelerating Capabilities Through Collaboration
The Defense Digital Ecosystem Alliance exists to accelerate the adoption of digital engineering across the Department of Defense by connecting industry innovators, academic researchers, and government program offices in a structured, outcome-driven ecosystem.
We operate as an open ecosystem: any organization committed to advancing digital engineering interoperability for the Department of Defense is welcome to participate, contribute, and benefit. We want to collaborate with other associations, consortiums, or ecosystems.
Our deliverables are practical and program-ready — including market research, white papers, validated evidence packets, interoperability profiles, and acquisition transition playbooks that programs can use immediately.
A Defense Enterprise Where Digital Engineering Works — Everywhere.
We envision a defense acquisition enterprise in which authoritative digital models flow seamlessly across organizational boundaries, enabling faster decisions, higher-fidelity analysis, and continuous capability delivery from concept through sustainment.
Guiding Principles
Interoperability First
Every solution, standard, and partnership is evaluated through the lens of system-to-system connectivity and data portability.
Speed to Capability
We prioritize pathways that compress the timeline from requirement to fielded capability without sacrificing security or reliability.
Open Standards
DDEA champions vendor-neutral, open standards that prevent lock-in and enable the broadest possible ecosystem participation.
Mission Alignment
All Alliance activities are anchored to real warfighter requirements and validated against operational mission outcomes.
How the Alliance Is Structured
DDEA operates through a transparent governance model that ensures every member has a voice while maintaining the operational focus needed to deliver results for defense programs.
Executive Board
Sets strategic direction, approves working group charters, and ensures alignment with DoD priorities.
Working Groups
Technical teams that execute specific interoperability and digital engineering initiatives.
Industry Members
Contribute COTS solutions, technical expertise, and real-world implementation experience.
Academic Partners
Provide independent research, validation, and workforce development capabilities.
What the Alliance Delivers
Digital Interoperability
Breaking down data silos across platforms, programs, and commands to enable seamless information flow throughout the enterprise.
